Chick 2 says:
Or, How I Became Wolverine. Or, What the X-Men Did Before Charles Xavier. Or, … You get the point. I suppose if I were a 25-year-old male who had grown up reading about the spandex clad Wolverine this movie would have thrilled me. As it is, it was a slightly disappointing opening to the summer movie season. About halfway in I was wondering how long we had left. As a history of how James Logan began his mutant life, survived war after war with his brother Victor a.k.a. Sabretooth, and eventually lost his memory after he became the indestructible Wolverine, this film does a fine job of going from action sequence to action sequence. But as for delivering on an emotion-packed background to the bad-ass with a heart of gold it falls short. I think Hugh Jackman brings a lot of depth to what could be a very one-dimensional character, but the script falls short in delivering his back-story. There are also a lot of could-be interesting characters that are left as flat as a comic book page on screen. The action is well done, as are the special effects, but for me the most engaging scene was naked Wolverine running around wreaking havoc.
IF you feel you must see all the X-Men related movies, THEN this has good enough action to see on the big screen.
