Chick 2 says:
Combine I, Robot with the Matrix and you’ve got Eagle Eye. Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) and Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan) are swept up in the world of national secret intelligence and forced to carry out the orders of a mysterious female voice on every cellular and mobile device around them. Of course, they soon uncover a plot that threatens national security. I wonder if they thwart it? The action is well done although at times it is a bit preposterous the things that are accomplished by this voice on the phone. The beginning is a little slow as director D.J. Caruso develops some character back-story that really isn’t all that necessary later, but Shia LaBeouf does a good job with it as he is always a likeable guy. The end is also a little tedious as things unfold that really aren’t that surprising, and you are ready to see how they will resolve this seemingly insurmountable plot. The actual moment of heroism is nicely done with some appropriate circular dolly track and slow motion (see Transformers review), and the final wrap-up is fitting for how much we have invested in the movie. I definitely think Caruso has some potential to be a great director if he can find a tightly written script with substantial emotional punctuations. I mean, he actually uses sun flares to show us that we’ve gone from sunset to sunrise. Genius. (Again, see Transformers review to read about inappropriate usage of slow motion, circular dolly track, and lens flares.)
IF you enjoy action and intrigue without huge surprises, THEN RENT IT.
