Chick 1 says:
One of the smaller films on my I Can’t Wait! list, this Sundance entry took a while to come to a theater nearby. But I finally managed to see it and I was not disappointed.
The Basics: As the opening narration says, this is a story of boy meets girl but it is not a love story.
What I Liked: Pretty much everything. This is a fantastic lovely story, funny and touching. It showcases two of my favorite rising stars, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (that kid from Third Rock from the Sun) and Zooey Deschanel (the girl from Elf) and they both give wonderful performances. I loved experiencing the romance through the eyes of the male instead of the female; Gordon-Levitt carries this burden expertly. The supporting cast is fine but the movie really belongs to the leading couple. The quirky creative storytelling captivates from the very first opening credit and I was completely pulled in. Some have said that this is not a romantic comedy but while it certainly doesn’t follow the normal rom-com formula it is both romantic and funny. Honestly, it satisfied me more than any romantic comedy I’ve seen in a while.
What I Didn’t Like: I gotta say, this movie is pretty close to perfection.
Bottom Line: Gentle, funny, poignant. Highly recommended. Go see it!
