I’ve been watching the buzz around the interwebs about this Tim Burton directed movie but, having never watched the 70s show on which it’s based, I have to say I really didn’t care. But now that the first trailer is out, I’m intrigued. I like Tim Burton but he doesn’t always knock it out of the park. But he has stacked the deck as far as cast is concerned and I love the quirky, self-aware tone. This could be a couple of hours of fun.

The Basics: Let’s start with a rundown of the previous Pirates movies. I really enjoyed the original, The Curse of the Black Pearl. Sure, it had some script/pacing problems in the third act. The Tourist: Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie in a thriller? I’m in. This trailer is actually the second to be released. Looks like a good story and Depp and Jolie can certainly handle themselves. Directed by Oscar-winning director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. (there’s a name for ya) I’m not a fan of the look that Depp is sporting but he’s still Johnny Depp…sigh. Opens December 10th. Finally, our first moving look at Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. I’m still excited about this project but I’m a little underwhelmed by the trailer. Obviously a teaser, we see most of the major players and some fun special effects but nothing to really sink your teeth into. (And no Alan Rickman, sadness!) I want more. I guess that’s what a teaser’s supposed to do. Enjoy.

Yes, I skipped Part 2. Part 2 was supposed to be about June releases but as far as June movies were concerned….turns out, I could wait. I actually wrote a Part 2 draft but it was the most boring thing I’ve ever written. I decided to spare you. Happily, July is looking much more promising.
Public Enemies: Johnny Depp & Christian Bale? Say no more. I’m in. Make it a period piece & throw in Marion Cotillard? Color me very interested. Read more

We’ve had a couple of glimpses of Tim Burton’s upcoming take on Alice In Wonderland, like this pic of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. Yesterday, several more character portraits ,like this balloon-headed Helena Bonham Carter, and some delightful concept art were released. I know this will be weird, but I am really looking forward to this. And I have to say, while the first Mad Hatter picture looked like Johnny Depp, I think this one looks like Elijah Wood. Look at the eyes & that gap in the teeth. Does Johnny Depp have a gap in his teeth? See the rest of them (including Johnny Depp as Elijah Wood as the Mad Hatter) here. I wasn’t going to start this rundown of the telecast until it actually started at 7:30 CST. But after what just happened on the red carpet, it’s time to start.
5:50 pm: All six children from the cast of Slumdog Millionaire being interviewed by Ryan Seacrest. Was that not the most adorable thing ever?! I could have eaten them all for dessert. Closely followed by the other cast members from Slumdog, all humble, excited, and a little giddy. And they seem to handling the whirlwind surrounding their film quite well.
