Trailer Trash: A Slew of New Ones

First peeks at several new films I’ve been curious about.  My reactions range from “meh” to “it might not be that bad”.

The Karate Kid: My feelings on this upcoming remake have been suspicious, especially the casting of Jackie Chan & Jaden Smith in the leads.  I have to admit this trailer had a nice energy but I’m still not convinced it has the heart the original one had.  Maybe I just still have a soft spot for Ralph Macchio. Casting Notes

The Avengers universe is taking shape & Hollywood just can’t resist mining the depths of classic TV.

Old News: In case you don’t know, The Avengers is Marvel Comics answer to DC Comics’ Justice League. Among the Avengers is Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, and Thor. And, unless you haven’t been to the theater in five years, you may have noticed that some of these characters have been the subject of some pretty successful movies. Marvel has been using these individual movies to shape not just individual franchises but an inclusive Avenger franchise.

Review: Taken

In the trailer, Liam Neeson promises he will hunt down his daughter’s kidnapper, and he indeed delivers on his promise, and Taken delivers the action.  It is a pretty straightforward movie with lots of great stunts, the right amount of suspense, and not too violent. Read more
