Trailer Trash: Star Trek Into Darkness

Chick 1 says:

New entry on the I Can’t Wait! List.  Behold the teaser trailer (Excuse me, “announcement” trailer.  La De Da.)  for the Star Trek sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness.  (Yes, they’re sticking with that clumsy title.)  And tease it does, providing mere glimpses of our beloved cast but lots of baddie Benedict Cumberbatch.  (Say that three times fast.)  Squees of joy!

Trailer Trash/I Can’t Wait!: Iron Man 3

Chick 1 says:

In penance for there being no trope this week, I offer up this newly released trailer for Iron Man 3.

As Iron Man 2, while still fun, was a bit of a step down quality wise from the first movie, I haven’t been quite as excited about this.  But Downey was a blast in The Avengers and this trailer puts Iron Man 3 squarely back on the I Can’t Wait List.

It…looks…AWESOME!  Ooo, Pepper in distress, Tony’s hair, seriously creepy iron man suit with no Tony!  Yay!  And what’s up with the huge bunny in the back of the explosion?  Watch it again.  You’ll see.

Trailer Trash: Downton Abbey

Chick 1 says:

As a peace offering for no Troperiffic Tuesday this and last week, I was going to post the new trailer for Season (or Series if you’re British) 3 Downton Abbey.  But apparently, it’s been taken down.  Boo for NBC Universal.  Yay for beautifully-costumed British period piece soap operas!  So it’s out there somewhere and for now I’ll just be happy knowing it exists.

I promise a trope next Tuesday!

Trailer Trash: Two Costume Epics

Chick 1 says:

As we enter the second half of the year, Oscar contenders start sticking their heads out of the ground and sniffing the air like groundhogs on Groundhog Day.  The real onslaught won’t start until the fall but here are a couple to whet your appetite that have some of my favorite elements in common;  lush costumes, big talented ensembles, and lots of accents.

Les Miserables

I have never seen or read Les Mis in any form.  I know. I know.  I should have seen it on stage when I was in London.  Anyway, this will probably be the one.

Chick 2 comments on this trailer: “Sniff, sniff.”  And I quite agree. Read more

Trailer Trash: Looper

Chick 1 says:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis playing the same character at different ages?  Yes, please!  Throw in some Emily Blunt and time travel and I am there.

Gordon-Levitt plays a hitman who kills targets sent back from the future.  But one day the target sent back is…him.  Oops.  Check it out.

Looks a litte intense for me but there are enough people I like to get me there.  Director Rian Johnson wrote the script.  He also directed two other movies that I haven’t seen but have always wanted to; Brick (a film noir set in high school and also starring Gordon-Levitt) and The Brothers Bloom (quirky caper with another amazing cast).  Time for a viewing party.

Looper opens September 28th.

Trailer Trash: Dark Shadows

Chick 1 says:

I’ve been watching the buzz around the interwebs about this Tim Burton directed movie but, having never watched the 70s show on which it’s based, I have to say I really didn’t care.  But now that the first trailer is out, I’m intrigued.  I like Tim Burton but he doesn’t always knock it out of the park.  But he has stacked the deck as far as cast is concerned and I love the quirky, self-aware tone.  This could be a couple of hours of fun.

Trailer Trash: The Avengers

Chick 1 says:

I admit; I’ve not had high hopes for The Avengers movie.  Despite director Joss Whedon’s reputation and devoted fans (I don’t really know his work but he seems to inspire the kind of fervor I can relate to) it just seems impossible to successfully combine all the different superheros involved and their respective universes with any credibility.

The first couple of trailers were OK.  But this latest one has finally peaked my interest.  Maybe this won’t be so bad after all.

What do you think?

Trailer Trash: Upside Down

Chick 1 says:

This freaky but romantic movie is from Argentinian filmaker Juan Diego Solanas.  It doesn’t even have a U.S. distributer but looks fantastic.  Stars  Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst (who’s had an upside down kiss before).

Trailer Trash: A Whole Basket of Goodies!

Chick 1 says:

A slew of interesting trailers came out last week. It looks like the fall will be exciting!

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy: Based on the 1974 novel, this film is packed with British acting heavyweights. The movie looks tense and tightly put together but I’ll be going mostly because of the amazing cast. Opens November 18th.
